How to Add Contacts and Send Messages
Find your Messaging & Contacts page, add people one at a time, from a spreadsheet or from your past forms, group them with tags, and email them.
Where Contacts Live
Grasshopper has a Messaging & Contacts page where you keep the people you work with, group them with tags, and email them. You need to be logged in to use it.
Step 1: Open Messaging & Contacts
Go to your Contacts page, or from your Dashboard open the menu (the icon in the top right) and choose Contacts under Quick Access. The page has three tabs: Contacts, Templates and Messages.
Step 2: Add your people
On the Contacts tab, use whichever of these is easiest:
- Add Contact: one person at a time. Only Email is required; add their name and phone if you have them, then click Save Contact.
- Import CSV: a spreadsheet saved as CSV. Only the Email column is required; you can also include Name (or First Name and Last Name), Phone and Tags.
- Import from Forms: pull in everyone who has signed up on your forms. See emailing everyone who has responded for the details.
Step 3: Group them with tags
Give contacts one or more Tags, like Choir, Room Parents or 2nd Grade, so you can message a group or find them quickly. Add tags when you add or edit a contact, or in a Tags column when you import a CSV (separate several with commas).
Step 4: Send a message
Click Send New Message at the top of the page, choose who gets it (everyone, or contacts with a tag), write your message and send. You can also schedule a message for later. Messages you've sent, with their opens and clicks, are on the Messages tab. Save wording you reuse on the Templates tab.
What to Know
- Limits: you can keep up to 1,000 contacts. Free accounts can send up to 50 messages in total; Boost removes the limit.
- Adding signups by hand gets faster. When you enter a signup for someone yourself (manual entry) while logged in, typing their name suggests your contacts and fills in their email and phone.
