Blacksburg Police Junior Police Academy 2026

Register children ages 10-14 for the Blacksburg PD Junior Police Academy at Blacksburg Middle School. Experience what a day in the life of a police recruit is like. Open to NRV residents. Consent forms will be sent by email or filled out on the day of the event. Your child will sweat, maybe get dirty, and or get wet. Lunch will be provided. All participant registrations are subject to final approval, prior to attending the event. Sign up instructions: Pick option A if you want to sign up an individual child. Pick option B if the parent / guardian would like to attend a parent only safety course at 1:25 presented by Blacksburg Rescue. Topics will include CPR, choking, and other first aid topics. To complete the registration process for a Blacksburg Police Department program, every (i) adult participant or (ii) parent or guardian of any participants under the age of eighteen must sign this Assumption of Risk/Waiver of Claim form. Such activities include basic defensive techniques, motor vehicle accidents, police canine demonstrations, and investigative procedures. All activities performed are part of a simulated and controlled scenario. No participant will be exposed to any actual police incident or call for service involving the public. 1. I understand that the above-referenced activity may be strenuous and physically demanding and could result in my being physically injured. Such injuries could include strained, sprained or torn muscles, ligaments and tendons, broken bones, head or back injuries, concussions, and even loss of life. I understand the importance of following all rules and regulations relating to this activity, including the instructions of the person or persons supervising this activity. I agree to follow and comply with all such rules, regulations, instructions and/or requirements. 2. I hereby expressly assume the risk of any physical injury or other loss that I might sustain as the result of participating in this activity and my transportation related thereto. 3. To the extent permitted by law, I also expressly waive and covenant not to sue on any claim I might have against the Town of Blacksburg or any officer or employee of the Town of Blacksburg, or any volunteer, or the estate or representatives of such person for any personal injury or loss I might sustain as the result of engaging in any activity relating to this program whether caused by negligence, breach of contact or otherwise; except that this wavier shall not apply to any claim I might have against the Town of Blacksburg or its agents for any such personal injury or loss I might sustain out of gross or wanton negligence 4. I give the Town of Blacksburg and the Blacksburg Police Department the right to use photographs of me, participating in this program, in its own promotional materials. 5. I agree to accept and abide by the rules and regulations of the Town of Blacksburg and Blacksburg Police Department governing this activity. 6. I give my consent to allow a doctor to administer emergency treatment to me, or my child, if needed. 7. I agree to inform the program administrator of any medical problems such as allergies, asthma, allergic reaction to bee stings, etc.
