How to Duplicate an Option (Cmd+D Shortcut)

Learn how to quickly duplicate and copy form options using the Cmd+D (or Ctrl+D) keyboard shortcut when editing your form.

You can quickly duplicate and copy any option in your form using a keyboard shortcut while editing. The duplicate shortcut creates an exact copy of the option below the original. This is useful when you need to create similar options with slight variations.

Using the Duplicate Shortcut to Copy Options

Step 1

Go to the Edit page for your form and find the option you want to duplicate and copy.

Step 2

Click on the option text field to focus it (your cursor should be in the option's text input).

Step 3

Press Cmd+D (Mac) or Ctrl+D (Windows/Linux) to duplicate the option.

A copy of the option will be created immediately below the original, with all settings preserved including:

  • Option text
  • Max responses
  • Date/time settings (if configured)
  • Option descriptions (if enabled)
  • Any other option-specific settings

Step 4

Edit the duplicated option as needed. This is especially useful for creating sequences like time slots, dates, or similar items with minor differences.

Common Use Cases

  • Time slots: Duplicate "9:00 AM - 9:30 AM" and change to "9:30 AM - 10:00 AM"
  • Date sequences: Duplicate "Monday, January 5th" and change to "Tuesday, January 6th"
  • Similar items: Duplicate "Chocolate Chip Cookies (2 dozen)" and change to "Sugar Cookies (2 dozen)"
  • Volunteer shifts: Duplicate options with the same max responses and settings but different dates

Tips

  • Make sure your cursor is focused in the option text field before using the shortcut
  • The duplicated option appears directly below the original
  • You can duplicate the same option multiple times by pressing the shortcut repeatedly
  • All option settings are preserved, saving you time on configuration
